Project Genesis

Project Genesis is the first step of the build-out of our own wireless 5G network at DISH Network. It is an exclusive group of beta testers that are helping us lay the foundation of the network.

OVERVIEW

DISH has set out on an adventure to become one of the leading 5G network providers in the country. Now that’s no small feat and we have to start somewhere, introducing Project Genesis. Project Genesis is a beta program that allows residents of initial cities to join an exclusive group of early tech adopters who will test out the 5G network. This project is still a work in progress and constantly evolving, but it was one of the first use cases of Campfire with a new brand and a brand new product.

THE PROCESS

Define the Brand

I worked with members of our internal creative agency to ensure we designed and built a brand, a product, and an experience that “techy” people would be drawn to. The creative team helped pick a series of colors that would be associated with the brand. Genesis is a network built by many. Therefore it’s not just one color, but many. The vibrant colors and gradients represent the diversity and collaboration and a fresh approach to build a new and exciting network together. We leaned on colorful, futuristic, and clean imagery that represented the style of the nation’s first stand-alone cloud-based 5G network.

Determine What We Want

Working closely with the Customer Journeys team, the business stakeholders, and the development team we were able to start pinpointing exactly what it was that we were trying to do. We knew we wanted the experience to be seamless and paperless. We knew we wanted a program centered around community and competition. And lastly, we knew we wanted to do it big. Collaborating closely with the Journeys team we started to come up with a flow that got people in the door and excited about what we’re doing. I led the design efforts on this project and started really pushing the boundaries on what Campfire could do.

Create a “Kick-Ass” Experience

Now that we knew what we wanted, we needed to put pen to paper. We integrated our new brand into Campfire and were off to the races. We were even able to leverage some of our existing work on the Boost Mobile Migration to the Digital Operator Platform (killing two reusability birds with one stone). Our executive gave us the green light and said come back with a “kick-ass” experience.

Build the Site

We just kicked off the development for the purchase flow and will be embarking on the activation and rewards platform soon. I continue to work closely with our team of developers to ensure I’m providing them what they needed and try to take any front-end development off their hands.

MY CONTRIBUTIONS

This project is just getting started, but boy is it a fun one. I have served as the lead designer on it and with that have established a great working relationship amongst the team. The stakeholders and leadership have given me a bit of creative freedom to run with this project. I am hoping to get designs in front of users soon, so stick around for the results.
